Proclamations issued by the Mayor provide special recognition to residents, businesses, organizations, and community events that contribute to the Village of Fairport Harbor. Proclamations are formal, detailed recognitions typically consisting of 3–5 “Whereas” statements highlighting the individual, organization, or event. Because proclamations require a high level of detail, additional background information is necessary when submitting a request.

Eligible Reasons for a Proclamation or Certificate
The Mayor may issue a proclamation or certificate for:

• Groundbreakings or grand openings
• Awards or special achievements
• Retirements
• Community events, celebrations, or conferences
• Milestone anniversaries
• Milestone birthdays
• Expressions of condolence
• Special ceremonies or recognitions
• Other notable contributions to the Village

Proclamations will not be issued for:

• Events, organizations, or individuals with no direct connection to the Village of Fairport Harbor
• Matters involving political controversy, ideological positions, or religious advocacy
• Requests that conflict with Village policies or public interests

• The Village of Fairport Harbor reserves the right to revise or decline any proclamation or certificate request.
• Multiple recognitions may be issued for the same day, week, or month.
• No individual or organization receives exclusive rights to a particular date or timeframe.
• Generally, the Village does not declare individual “days” (e.g., “Joe Smith Day”). An exception may be made for nationally or statewide recognized observances, such as Arbor Day.
